The movie was called "The Ultimate Gift." After watching the movie, I sat back and looked at my daughter and asked myself, What is the Ultimate Gift? In the movie it was a series of 12 Gifts leading up to the final and Ultimate Gift of Love.

As a Catholic and as we enter into the season of Advent, I would have to say that God provided us with "The Ultimate Gift" when he sent us his Son to save us and lead us to Heaven. I wondered to myself, when was the last time I took 5 minutes of quiet time in the morning or the evening to reflect upon and bask in the Glory that God has given to us. We are reminded of this special life every time we walk into Church or say a prayer, but do we truly realize what God has given us and when was the last time we made sure we were not taking the Gift for granted.

On a personal level, I highly recommend this movie to everyone and when you are done watching it, ask yourself the simple question, what is "The Ultimate Gift" of life and have you earned and received that Gift.

May God Bless you and your families as we enter this truly special season and open our hearts to God's Gift to us.

Scott O'Leary
Grand Knight
Father Comyns Council 9638
Ellicott City, MD

I Said a Prayer for You Today

I said a prayer for you today
And know God must have heard.
I felt the answer in my heart
Although he spoke no word!

I didn't ask for wealth or fame
(I knew you wouldn't mind).
I asked him to send treasures
Of a far more lasting kind!

I asked that he be near you
At the start of each new day;
To grant you health and blessings
And friends to share your way!

I asked for happiness for you
In all things great and small.
But it was for his loving care
I prayed the most of all!

Scott O'Leary
Grand Knight
Father Comyns Council (#9638)
Knights of Columbus

Courage

What is the meaning of Courage?

Is it simply the definition in the dictionary: The state or quality of mind or spirit that enables one to face danger, fear, or vicissitudes with self-possession, confidence, and resolution; bravery.

Or is it something else? Maybe we are afraid of something or a situation. Are we able to profess to others that we are Catholic, are we able to stand by our beliefs in the time that our Church needs us, and can we stand by our Priests when they are be calling upon us in their time of need.

Courage is more than the definition: Courage is how we teach ourselves to look at our fears and defeat them by using the wisdom that has been given to us from a leader, a mentor, a savior.

Courage in the Catholic religion is to Trust our Savior, Jesus Christ, that every thing he stood for and every criticism that he faced was worth giving up his life to save our souls and to lead us to Heaven. We shall take the wisdom that he has given us and not be afraid to tell others that we follow him and that we believe in him through the words given to us by our Priests and the Holy Bible.

However, it is also okay to be afraid to face these challenges in life, as God said in the Prayer of Footprints, "The LORD replied, "My precious, precious child, I love you and I would never leave you. During your times of trial and suffering, when you see only one set of footprints, it was then that I carried you."

My Brothers, learn to Trust in God as he has Trusted in you. May God Bless you and your Families.

Scott O'Leary
Grand Knight
Father Comyns Council (#9638)
Knights of Columbus

Engage and Be Present

Brothers,

As we continue to face our adversities each day as Catholic Men, we can rely on the visions of our Founder:

To aid one another in times of sickness or death (through our insurance plan) so that our wives and children will not face poverty

To strengthen ourselves and each other in the Faith

To strengthen our families and family life

To be a strong pillar of support for our Priests and Bishops.

To be a service of Church and community by coming to the aid of those most in need in society

I ask you my fellow Brothers, to recall back to the day you took your 1st Degree.
